The Avengers poster analysis

This is the poster for the film Avengers Directed by Joss Whedon (2012). In this poster we can see the title of the film very clearly which is a key feature for a poster. This title is also key because this is a comic adaptation, the Avenger title needs to be big so that readers of the comics can recognize that this poster is for the Avengers film. The title is in a white/silver colour which could connote that the film is going to be a mysterious and probably an unconventional film as most action films have a red or bright coloured title to try and show and add empathis to the Action Genera.

The poster has an image with all the main hero's in the film. The use of this image is that everyone who has followed previous films will recognise them and that the characters are all Marvel hero's, they can understand that they have all come together to protect the earth. Having the background as a battle ground with buildings falling and planes blowing up indicates to the audience that there hero's maybe going through a struggle and may even lose the fight that is clearly being portrayed. Also, as all the main characters are still in this image, it could indicate to the viewer that these hero's are earth last hope which could create excitement for certain viewers.

There are also the names of the actors at the top of the poster all the main characters are played by famous actors and so people may recognize them from both the previous Marvel films and from other ones.Big named actors are for some films a selling point and this poster is using this to there advantage. They have the names right at the top of the poster which indicates that they are using the names as a selling point. Another feature on the poster is that it has the date of release on it. This sometimes makes the viewer want to pre-book a ticket for this date as they like the poster and are interested in watching the film. The date of release is surrounded by many names, these are the names of the production company and backstage crew, something that not many people take notice of and so the use of the release date to make this space more appealing but also the date stands out among the small writing.
