trailer analysis- Jack Reacher

Jack Reacher is unlike any other action trailer i have analysed, due to the fact it is based and a series of books and so because to this the trailer needs to aim to please two sets of people, both the fans of the book that this film is worthy of the books and also convince people who are unaware of the books that this is a film they want to go to.

throughout the trailer there is a constant nondiagetic sound of a car engine which merges into the background when someone who has been attacked gives an account of Reacher, this also gives the people who have not read the books something to base there view of him on. The dialog creates the  image of a kind of police man from the wild west. "hes a kinda cop, or at least he used to be, doesn't care about prof doesn't care about the law, he knows what i did, you cant protect me no one can" this second of dialog suggests that he is above the law or something horrible has happened in his life to act as a vigilante, this creates a very un-stereotypical anti-hero that is not very common in films. The dialogue then goes to the main character who says " you think im a hero im not a hero" " if your smart that scares you" because i have nothing to lose" this also suggest the anti hero persona.

the trailer is created with a mixture of fast and long paced shots as well as high angel sweeping shots of a city skyline, this mixture could represent the way you should feel about this character , in the way that you are not necessarily allowed to like him 100% backed up by the first real image you see of a man in a hospital cut with Reacher getting changed. It then follows the stereotypical fast pasted shots until the last scene where you see him fighting a fight against 5/6 men, 2 of which run away. This would leave a very good image as to what the film is about and the genera that will stay in the audiences head.
