Good guys in movies move left to right while bad guys move right to left

Next time you watch a movie where people have to do some walking, take notice of where from and to the characters are walking. Chances are, most times the good guys will move from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen. A good example of this is Lord of the Rings, because there's a lot of walking. Heroes are almost always walking left to right, while the orc armies march from right to left.
Rogert Eberts explains that movement to the right is considered positive and to the left negative. This is because the eye tends to read a picture from left to right, and so physical movements in that direction seem natural, while movements from right to left seem inexplicably tense and uncomfortable.

changes to our plot

we have made slight adjustments  to our plot which are;
- We have made it a lot simpler by just having our man girl taken and our hero needs to get her back
- scaled back the sub plot of the betrayal of a friend as it was proving harder to explain while keeping the impact of her being taken. There was too much going on.

- Another aspect we have scaled down is the script to our hero simply saying “if you hurt her I will kill you" this I feel creates lot more tension and the impact of his words are increased.

trailer analysis- Trance

From Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), stylish thriller 'Trance' follows an unscrupulous art dealer who double crosses a criminal gang involved in the theft of a priceless masterpiece.

When he feigns memory loss as to the loot's whereabouts, his partners in crime attempt to coerce him into revealing where it's stashed with the help of a hypnotherapist. But the lines between fantasy and reality soon begin to fade as they delve into the darkest recesses of his mind. 'Trance' stars James McAvoy (Atonement) and Rosario Dawson (Eagle Eye).

This trailer is different than what we have been used to, for example it does not contain any use of titles ether to give a mood of a film or to acknowledged the cast. Almost the entirety of the trailer is made up of montages with the pace set with the music or more the change in it from instrumental to technological  To accompany the music there is a voice over said by Rosario Dawson which is very unusual for an action film as they tend to go for more of a "jack reacher" approach where the migratory of the dialogue is said by the main character this techneak of allowing a secondary character to do the voice-over is something seen more in the Indie genre. The voice over starts of with the introduction of the concept of hypnotism with an accompanying footage of a mixture of fast and slow paced shots of juxtaposing scenes, an example being an explosion with a fine art sale, this creates a very mixed feeling to the trailer and the film over all, suggesting that it is aiming  to attract the target audience by creating a big question with out an answer and to get the answer they need to go and see the film. The trailer ends with a harrowing scream that really stays with the audience

filming diary 1

Today after school we filmed what will hopefully be the opening scene to our film, we took multiple takes and so hopefully wont need to re-shoot as it was very cold. we plan on starting the editing work Monday.

trailer analysis - Olympus has fallen

The 2:31 trailer starts of in chronological order and sets up a good back story explaining how these two characters are connected, from this they had set in up quite nicely to really play around with the order of the film; a tactic sometimes used to throw people of the real plot line, this is not the case how ever in this trailer it keeps it very much in chronological order. But keep the ending hidden, this is something that would be a nice idea for our film but would be to tricky for us to pull off.

special effects are also used to a large extent in this movie to highlight the damage the terrorists are doing to the American capital city, from this you can see that the movies main target audience is american`s due to the multiple explosions and destruction to there national landmarks such as the white house, also the hostage is the president. with theses elements combined it also suggests to me that it was aiming to draw people in the fact the terrorists are north Korean a very current issues.

the dialog is minimal but with this it creates an intense focus on what is being said, such as "im your only hope" and "it more than just the president" this sort of dialog cut in with scenes of action create a really good final few seconds for the trailer, and something we can easily use.

Actors profile- Girl

Name : Christie Bagley
Age: 16

Christie fits the profile of what we are looking for when it come to a girl in need of saving. She is blond and petite and so similar to our hero fits the profile of what we are looking for, she is very confident and is also my sister so we can film scenes with out the need for the rest of the group to speed the filming along. Other people were considered for the part but this was the easiest option, but if it does not work out we have other people who her part can go to. she will be playing a character similar to that of  Dakota Fanning`s part in "Man on Fire" and so we are aiming for the incontinent look when we cast her. unlike Dakota Fanning`s part we aim to also show her trying to escape in an effort to not conform to the weak female stereotype that is ever evolving in action films.

Actors Profile- Villain

Name: Jaymie Ebrada
Age: 18

Jaymie is also another member of our group and so again he has a vested interest in the filming  of our trailer he also he taking drama as an Alevel and has taken it for GCSE so it a perfect person for the villain in our trailer. our aim at the moment for him in our trailer is for him to be fully shown as the villain in our trailer as we feel it will create more striking effect if it it revealed in film and kept secret, similar to the way Kevin Spacey was not shown as the killer in se7en, for this to work we would need to keep him out of our other media products something that we as a group have not decided on yet.

Actors Profile - Hero

Name: Josh Hitch
Age: 18

Josh is a member the group which is party the reason we chose him, due to the fact he would have a vested interest in turning up to filming, something that groups last year had a problem with e.g not being able to make the filming dates, because of this it would be best to use a member of our group to has to make the filming dates as he is apart of the team.

we have chosen him as the hero as he is the taller of the two actors and so will look naturally more dominating over our villain. The character he will be playing is similar to that of Ryan Reynolds in safe house and so will need to be physically fit to be able to do all the scenes, I think he is the best choice to play our hero as he fits all the requirements necessary allowing our trailer to seem more realistic and also to attract our target audience.
